Torchy's July Taco of the Month
Torchy’s Tacos is an Austin staple - known for their damn good tacos and queso, you can’t go wrong with a trip to your closest Torchy’s. Every month they feature a “taco of the month” and July’s is one that is not to be missed - The Maine Squeeze. I’m a huge fan of seafood (and tacos) so when I heard the special was a lobster taco I was extremely excited.
But this taco isn’t just an ordinary lobster taco, it’s a chilled lobster salad with truffle oil, mango, fresh avocado and cilantro, topped with lemon aioli and served on a double tortilla - a crisp corn tortilla melted with jack cheese inside a flour tortilla. Honestly, the tortilla situation itself blew my mind - I want all of my tacos served on this double tortilla from now on.
This take on a lobster salad was refreshing and light. There was no heavy mayonnaise base like you typically find in a lobster salad, and the quality of the lobster was apparent in the taste - no surprise that it was fresh from Maine. And, of course a trip to Torchy’s isn’t complete without their queso; if you’ve never had it, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
And, depending on your Torchy’s location, you may be able to get some Damn Good drinks as well. We tried The Lorena with pure agave tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, grapefruit soda plus a touch of salt and The Cool Down with watermelon and cucumber Western Son vodka, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Both were very refreshing and are highly recommended by me :)
I will 100% be making a few stops at Torchy’s this month to get the Maine Squeeze before it’s gone - fingers crossed it will make a return within the next few months as well.
