Happy Hour at Eberly
Eberly on South Lamar is one of my favorite spots in south Austin. My first experience at Eberly was their Sunday Brunch but I recently returned for happy hour at the Cedar Tavern. The story of the Cedar Tavern bar itself is enough reason to visit; the bar was a popular spot for notable artists, writers and musicians for over 140 years in New York City before closing in 2006. The partners of Eberly knew they had to preserve this work of art and had it deconstructed and moved to Austin where it now continues it’s reign at Eberly.
Okay moving on from the bar to talk about what you are really interested in - the food and drinks! Happy Hour is 5pm-7pm Tuesday-Friday and ALL DAY Sunday and Monday. The specials include $7 specialty cocktails, $5 glasses of wine, $4 draft beers and half off select menu items on the Tavern Menu.
For drinks, we tried the French 75 with gin, lemon, sugar and sparkling wine & the NY Sour with bourbon, lemon, sugar and a red wine float.
When looking at the food menu, the first thing that caught my eye was the tavern chips, shortly followed by pizza - because pizza always catches my eye. Other notable items were the baked oysters, charcuterie board and the cornmeal hushpuppies; but everyone has to make decisions and unfortunately I couldn’t try them all. There will always be more happy hours though :)
